  Meet Dr Mark Foster
  Orthopedic Surgeon by Kathy Moran

Dr Mark Foster Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Mark Foster, PhD, MD, FACS, is the Director of the Orthopaedic Spine Specialists of Western Pennsylvania, P.C. He is a general orthopaedics practitioner with a sub-specialty in pathological, congenital, and degenerative conditions of the spine, as well as traumatic spinal injuries.

“The only things more common than low back pain that prompt people to visit their doctors are colds and upper respiratory infections,” says Dr. Foster. “That’s understandable, because, unfortunately, spinal conditions can be painful and debilitating enough to interfere with a person’s ability to work, and even to perform simple, everyday activities. These afflictions require comprehensive treatments, tailored specifically to each patient’s individual needs.”

There’s no doubt that those under his care are in good hands. Dr. Foster has been practicing medicine in Pennsylvania since 1980. With decades of surgical experience, he has served on the Board of Directors of the American Back Society for over 20 years. Comprised of chiropractors, osteopaths, neurologists, rheumatologists, and other doctors of various disciplines, the  organization promotes collaborations across

specialties to achieve the optimum care for patients.

As a PhD, Dr. Foster is also relentlessly dedicated to research, and is enthusiastic about exploring and envisioning new possibilities for treatments. A member of the North American Spine Society, he was appointed to the select Biologics Committee. Also having served on committees that emphasize complementary and alternative medicines, he was a member of the task force for Manipulation, Mobilization, and Massage.

In addition, he was invited to the round table discussion on prolotherapy, which is designed to stimulate the body to repair, or regenerate, itself. Dr. Foster uses this technique to correct the underlying causes of a number of painful, degenerative conditions. His many other effective, comprehensive treatments include medications, injections, physical therapy, minimally-invasive surgery, post-operative rehabilitation, and pain management.

He also believes that having trust in a doctor is equally essential to a person’s recovery. Therefore, Dr. Foster ensures that patients understand every aspect of their conditions, as well as the proposed

solutions, so that they can make informed decisions about their health care. “Our office is extremely user-friendly,” he says. “My patients know that I will always be honest in addressing their concerns, answering their questions, and explaining everything in detail.”

To promote widespread awareness of the intricate issues associated with back pain, and the need for complete, customized care, Dr. Foster authored a book, entitled, Back Pain: Putting It Behind You!

Besides his orthopaedics practice, Dr. Foster provides independent medical exams (IME), through Status Reports, LLC, for insurance and worker’s compensation cases.
